Liverpool, Sunday and other stuff

Arrogant Liverpool fans

Today, the Liverpool supporters in our office have offered us Man Utd supporters to 'cross-over'. They hope that by the end of their campaign, they will have 2/3 of all the football fans in our company to put images of Torres on our desktop wallpapers.

But unlike Malaysian politicians, ive decided to stay with the Devils.

Advertising gone wrong

I was at Pavilion in KL on Sunday morning for breakfast.
And in the centre of the semi-high-end shopping mall, was a display of a Jaguar - a brand new looking jaguar, no longer with the very protruding, caddilac resembling bonets & trunks.

The car looked really fresh & caught my attention & made me wanna check it out .... until i saw a bunting that stood trembling next to the display car. Well, before i even start, its a bunting... and Jaguar. Nvm

I dunno if its just me but it says "Definitely premium executive car of the year". 3 adjectives to describe a car is too long? Just say 'Executive Car of the Year!' ?
And best is - its awarded by NSTP & Maybank. Yes, a print company & a bank.

Weird plastic models

When men are out shopping with the ladies(be it gfs or wives), the first thing they look for when they enter a boutique are the comfortable couches which are prepared for them.

And the men will normally try and keep a little sight on the lady so when she looks, you can quickly nod and pretend you're really interested.

One of the shops i entered (prada) and had to sit for particularly long, placed these 2 plastic models right in-front of the waiting couch. A headless one, and one wearing sunnies and has got no nose. Artistic? or ...

There is a food court in Pavilion

Pavilion has a food court if you go down down. I was surprised, but ive already had breakfast. But i wanted to check it out.

And after i walked pass some Asian restaurants & food shops i began to see a trend in these outlets. They are all trying to bring out the traditions of how the food is prepared, or at least a traditional outfit to cook the food.

Because, i think, the Chinese are just too kiasu, 'originality' becomes always a major factor in decision making. So if you can convince them that its very 'original', they'll pay the price for it.

This was the 'Cha Kueh' food shop displaying their brought-fwd-through-time cooks.

This was a Japanese restaurant, and they displayed their chef / kitchen-hand making Soba noodles with a stick.

Next time i start a chicken rice business, ill have a young boy chasing endlessly after a chicken at the front corner of the shop.

Work is on full steam.

I get so stressed ive many times dreamt about camping at the Murray River. When i was in Australia, we made many trips to what we term "the river".

To get really trashed at night, and just chill through the day in the bush, by the river and with no fucking worries. Tons of booze, and stuff you take in Australia when you're in Uni.. haha

I miss my holden and the caravan! And the boat rides on the river Jungle biking...

And while im on this, Im trying to get in touch with a long lost friend. I always get into this 'long lost friend' situation coz im really bad at keeping contacts and keeping in touch until i they fall into the long lost friend category before i start to realize it.
Ben Garner. Lives in Shepparton, Victoria. I know its a big world but by any chance, anybody knows him?

White water rafting, anyone?

There is white water rafting in Selangor. I was surprised... very.

I thought the Malaysian government loves oil so much they coat all the streams, rivers and oceans in Malaysia with oil, build the empire state petronas twin towers, chill at the penthouse, smoke some marijuana and just admire how much wealth there is in Malaysia.

It makes them so blind they think we will end our year with only a 50K unemployment rate. Bullshit! As it is now, the unemployment rate is already more than 100,000. However, instead of focusing on the economy, they spend all their time over a hapless tree in Ipoh. Talk about fiddling while Rome burns.

Anyway, back to what i was gonna write, i was actually excited bout the rafting trip because i checked out videos on you tube and it looked pretty dangerous. i like. We were going for grade 4 rapids. They call a grade 4 rapid a banana fall or something i really cant remember.

Anyway, off we went in tight life jackets (for me at least) coz there was only 1 size - i felt really gay.

Before we went on the raft, we had to do a ritual, so our boats dont capsize later.

We had to pick up our pedals, shove and kill the invinsible stream monsters in front of us.

They were brutally man-slaughtered and their life jackets fell on the ground in front of us, we were victorious!

Wan Lih (far right) flexed her muscles watching me whack the stream monsters, showing her support. Lee Fen (2nd right) watched in horror.

The streams were now clear. Before we got on the rafts, we went for a stream ride to get ourselves acustomed to the water temperature, it was morning then so water was still pretty chilly.

We walked a kilometer up, walked down the mudy & slopy bank to get into the stream.

Threw ourselves in the water, with life jackets helping us stay on the surface, floated down the stream. We feasted our eyes on the lush rain forest, tuned our ears to the crickets, birds and the sound of nature, and breathed the air that is freshly produced from the surroundings, no carbon manoxide and and no shit like that. It was an enmeshing experience, fucking priceless.

I did it twice before we got on the rafts for the rough ride. We were split into 3 - 4 teams so enjoy the pictures of the different rafts.

These were just grade 4 rapids, and im keen on more challenging ones.
They say, we get the roughest rides on slim river.

ANYONE IN??? It's RM170 / pax plus breakfast & lunch.
We are paying river guides, who's rafts we will ride on.

St Paddy's Day, Malaysia

I was exposed to the St Patrick's day celebration many years back when i was studying in Melbourne. I never really got attracted enough to find out more about it and thought the Australians were just looking for every opportunity to celebrate and drink excessively.

I just knew that it was Irish - obviously from the green & clover leaves - and made assumptions that it's related to St Patrick, a misionary who was sent to Ireland with a dual mission-to minister to Christians already living in Ireland and to begin to convert the Irish. (Interestingly, this mission contradicts the widely held notion that Patrick introduced Christianity to Ireland.)

So i thought that Australians were just celebrating to the fact that St Patrick brought Christianity to Ireland -used bonfires to celebrate Easter and superimposed a sun onto the Christian cross. Well, if you live in Australia for long enough its not surprising to have such thoughts hahaa.... the OZs are mad drinkers.

Anyway, after getting myself more involved in "St Patricks Day", in Malaysia, i got to find out a lil more about the celebration. It's more than just drinking - its about a day of fun, being Irish and such. But, like what i thought about the Australians, its alot about a reason to drink! specifically Irish stout, whiskey and cream. In the modern day, its one word - Guinness

The Chicago river is dyed green each year to celebrate St Pat's day.

In Kuala Lumpur, the KL tower lights were turned green to officially launch the St Patrick's celebration in Malaysia. Malaysians wanna find a reason to drink too!
The media were invited to Hakka Republic to get a first taste of the celebration, many high profile bloggers turned up too, like the very popular FHM columnist, Kimberly

The kinky green fairy

And no other than Kenny, who drank too much Guinness he got mixed up between American and Irish culture - he was break-dancing on an Irish celebration.

This celebration in Malaysia also saw Guinness sauces being served in alot of outlets, St Pat's apps on Facebook & Mobile and alot of cool looking ads & coverage in the media. Very well planned.
.
The St Pats celebration culminated in a massive party in One Utama this year, with lots of Guinness Draught & Guinness infused food. There were also performances, games, ppl walking on stilts and cute horny looking girls in green uniforms & Guinness hats

Timothy & Audrey were also there to celebrate St Patrick's day. Timothy, like Kenny, also got mixed up between American & Irish culture - see picture, he had Coke in a Guinness Draught pint.

They had nice projections on One Utama too, although i didnt quite fancy the spinning Guinness logo. I thought it would have been nicer BOLD, Stout & Still. The clover leaf at the side could have taken up the duty of animation.

And until today, i still wish for cold weather in Malaysia - so its condusive to drink out in the open, where its fun.

Yahoo day out

Last weekend, i was also at the Yahoo! day out and we went to play paintball in Bukit Cahaya, Shah Alam.

We played 2 games - capture the flag & capture the fort.

Capture the flag is where you're split into 2 teams - one based in the south, the other, north.
Once the battle commences, you will need to rush to the middle and raise your respective flags. The flags are stationed in the open so will need to risk being an open target when you're at it.

Capture the fort also involves 2 teams. The first stationed in the fort and the second given the objective to secure the fort - like the CTU

The arena was pretty alright - in a natural forest so you're practically running on jungle tracks and have trees to take cover, but their guns are like waterguns.

You see an enemy, you shoot and your bullet dont even land on his feet and this is just like 30M away. And single shots... the fuck. So the whole time i was just pointing my gun up so hopefully the bullets can land on my enemies feet.
.
The guys from Yahoo on the contrary bought & brought their own assault rifles - Carbaine / AK47 compatibles in the paintball field. One of them, Pete, carried shell containers strapped to his kevlar. So i was pretty much shot like a palestinian when i front-lined the 'capture the fort' mission. Their guns were so good and it didnt help with them chickening in the forts.
Anyway, if you want stronger guns, go to the arena in Sungai Buloh, they got more macho guns there or be prepared to dump RM2 - 5K in purchasing a good gun. The environment in Sungai Buloh is not as good as this but.

But anyway all in all, we had a pretty good time. There was food, alcohol and stuff too so cheers to YBR. We were even ferried to Holiday Inn Glenmarie after for a spa + massage session. Well done.

Get Away from Fraser's Hill 2009

Now unlike what our Tourism Ministry runs - the Visit Malaysia 200x campaigns - i am now running the "Get Away from Fraser's Hill 2009" campaign to discourage ppl from visiting Fraser's Hill.

Here's the story.

On Sunday night, after watching Arsenal kick Burnley's ass (btw Burnley kicked Liverpool's ass) we couldnt take the weather no more - coz it was fucking hot on Saturday and fucking hot on Sunday - we decided to do a road trip on Monday (since it was a holiday) to somewhere green and cold!

So we pretty much had only 3 options - camerons, genting or fraser's - and since non of us have been to fraser's, we decided to pay the bitch a lil visit.

So off we went..............

and KL rained. It's like KL was trying to make up to us.... like KL is saying "oh come on now, i'll make it up for you, i'll make it cold for you so hold up boys, come back"

But we were like "TOO LATE", we're off to Fraser's

And i was fucking LOVING it coz everything was green looking out the front screen.

Looking out the left windscreen, everything was also green - it was like paradise, a perfect getaway from being raped by clients in the city. We were all eager, all anxious to do some horse back riding, pluck some strawberies and shit in fucking COLD weather. It was like watchin a girl strip.

Even the bottles we brought were GREEEEN! Heineken green. You never go on road trips without these bottles. Especially when you're the driver. It makes things greener for ya.

And these are the 3 mother fuckers, all laid back chilling at the back. Jo, Anisa and Zuf. I had to take the front seat coz i had relatively longer legs and a bigger ass... wtf

So i could only be in front to observe road signs.
This caught my attention:

See, when you say it in English - Heavy Vehicles - you kinda get it because 'heavy', as an adjective, can also refer to heavy in size. But when its in BM, you just take 'berat' so literally its like you gotta put your car on the scale before you head out so you know when you gotta keep left.
-
" KENDERAAN LEBIH BERAT DARIPADA 500KG, IKUT KIRI"
-
Anyway, back to our journey to Fraser's, and as i was saying earlier - i was assigned to sit in front to observe road signs and sorta direct the driver, who is non-Malaysian.
-
And for those who know me, you will know what happens when that happens.
-
Yes, we got lost... we arrived in Bentong and we were heading towards Raub.

So since we've never been to Bentong, we paid the town a little visit.
-
And a small town it is. It's like Bekenu in 8 years - A town which policemen ride on Honda Boon Siew 70CC. Man can you imagine, you just need a Honda Boon Siew 80CC to get away from the cops in this part of the world
And you know what, we were just picking up one of the girls from damansara perdana and i swear i saw a 'Restoran Lapan Lapan Lapan Lapan' aka 'Restaurant Four Eights'.
-
So as you can see, shops in Bentong are getting there .... they only got Lapan Lapan or two eights for now.

So after Bentong, we decided to waste no time and get to our destination. Well luckily we found a road sign that points us to Fraser's Hill so that was like a life saver.
-
So we took that road and it was the most windiest road in the world it was like if every 1-inch turn on your steering wheel earns you 1 buck, you'd be a millionaire when you get to the top.

And the whole road seems to be infected with bamboo trees, there were so much bamboo trees you'd be blind if you see no bamboo trees. And massive bamboo trees. If i never knew we were going to Fraser's, i'd think we were going to a bamboo plantation
After a really sick drive, we finally saw a very warm sign board.

Welcome to Fraser's Hill it says, the Little England. WTF? Is little England filled with bamboo trees? and do brits name their coffee shops "eight eight cafe" Yo Mr Fraser, you're givin us the wrong impression yo.... we've been to little England yo and it is NOTHING close to this.
-
And what was more WTF, was the final route to Fraser's, which is one way. Yes, like one fucking road with just 1 lane so if you're going up when ppl are coming down, you're fucked. It was odd hours going up and even hours coming down and we got there at 2:01.
-
Anyway, after an hour, we got up the hill.
-
So we arrived at Fraser's Hill and we were so fucking AMAZEDDDDDDDDDD at how lousy it was. There was nobody, alot of abandoned buildings which looks haunted, 10% of the shops were opened, road had no lights, you hardly see a sign of living on Fraser's. I'd call it "Welcome to Fraser's Hill, the little ghost town"

This is the Silverpark Appartments, which was on the peak of the hill if not one of the peaks. It's like the theme park of Genting but this did not even have a sign of a heartbeat.
And just trees surrounding it.

Some bangalows... they look like cottages. Maybe thats where the 'Little England' came from.

After all that anticipation, which was eventually answered with utter disappointment, we just wanted to find a place to eat, sit on a still chair and just chill.
-
We followed the road signs that led us to many restaurants that were all closed.
-
We finally settled for mamak food . A mamak in literally cold temperature & surrounded with greens - how cool is that.

So unless you wanna check out the mamak, Get Away from Fraser's Hill.

Twitter: We Can Do What Google Can't

In the future, searches won't only query what's being said at the moment, but will go out to the Twitter audience in the form of a question, like a faster and less-filtered Yahoo Answers or Wiki Answers. Users would be able to tap the collective knowledge of the 6 million or so members of the Twitterverse.

NEW YORK (AdAge.com)

Twitter sees lucrative opportunities in search, albeit a different kind of search than what Google offers, and, as co-founder Biz Stone told Ad Age recently, "we'll certainly be exploring those."

It's because of the potential it sees in search that the Twitter co-founders walked away from a $500 million offer from Facebook -- not just the terms of the deal, said Todd Chaffee, an Institutional Venture Partners general partner and a new Twitter backer. He said contrary to some reports, Facebook offered not just stock but substantial cash in the deal.

Twitter's search engine, purchased with the acquisition of Summize last summer, bills itself as a search of "what's happening -- right now," and in Twitter's small but growing world, it is.

While being a searchable database of what is being said at a particular time is unique, it doesn't take Twitter too far afield from Google, which is a catalog of the world's recorded knowledge.

Google looks back at what documents have been produced and can be surfaced, while Twitter looks back at what was said on a given topic.

Certainly there's an AdWords-like business there, but, as Mr. Chaffee told us, Twitter has another "wild card."

In the future, searches won't only query what's being said at the moment, but will go out to the Twitter audience in the form of a question, like a faster and less-filtered Yahoo Answers or Wiki Answers. Users would be able to tap the collective knowledge of the 6 million or so members of the Twitterverse.

"You put a question out to the global mind, and it comes back," Mr. Chaffee explained. "Millions of people are contributing to the knowledge base. The engine is alive. You get feedback in real time from people, not just documents."

Here's how it might work: Someone posts a query on, say, the best basketball shows (is @The_Real_Shaq listening?), or what to look for in a single-malt Scotch, or where to have a drink at 6 p.m. in New Orleans. Then the Twitter community (hopefully) comes back with useful links or other information.

It's the difference between asking the Twitter community where to go for drink after work and searching for any relevant tweets about a bar in New Orleans, which you can do now, and which may or may not yield relevant tweets.

Twitter users who make themselves useful have the added incentive of attracting more followers to their feeds. Like AdWords, this really only works if there's scale, and of the active Twitterverse transcends over-sharing journalists and social media "experts."

But it's one reason Twitter's founders and backers who have ploughed $55 million into the company: They believe the best of Twitter is yet to come.

0% for BN, 76% dont get weekly shag

Hello ppl! I got pretty disturbed with some of the comments i got on my last 'Miri' post. So i think i need to just make it clear that i am not a proffesional writer, i am not affiliated with any political parties or NGOs (although i make it no secret that i am behind DAP's principals & cause), i do not practise law or any related fields of profession and to just cut this whole bullshit short, my opinions are just opinions of an ordinary citizen who's sick of the traffic jams, struggling with the high cost of living, perplexed with the political & economic instability and just has a point of view, sometimes negative. And my opinions are not politically motivated and shouldn't be taken seriously. And i mean this applies to everything ive written before and will write now and in the future.

Ok, now that i've covered myself kau kau...

The title reflects some of the results ive garnered from this most ridiculous poll im running on my blog (on the right) and one of the results (below), i like!

This result, however, quite worrying. Did you know that sex stimulates your brain cells and improves brain acitivty and this leads to smart decisions, and smart decisions normally yield good returns. So dont be shy now

This, also quite alarming.

To the 19% who take chemicals - bro, take it easy man. Life aint that bad buddy, try toke up some shit and hang loose & forget bout that white shit man. Your missus might have left you, or is having sexy time with another dick, or she's no 4 prostitue in Kuzhek but come on man, it aint worth what ur doin now.

So hang loose bratha, go check out the sexy leprechauns that are populating the town now. I just had the chance to bump into 2 recently, starting with this little cute leperchaun in the middle. She introduced herself as the fourfeetnine leperchaun. How bizzare...

And this is kinky blue, i mean green leperchaun. To spot more sexy leperchauns, come to One Utama (New Wing) on Mar 13th at 6pm.

The polls and sexy leperchauns aside, i was searching for a picture of Miri, since my hometown caught quite some 'unatural' response.

I keyed in "picture miri" on Google and guess what i found (try it).

Now i didn't quite expect that lady who's sucking her thumb to appear on a search for Miri, on Google. So yes of course, i checked her out

Miri Hanai (花井 美理, Hanai Miri?, born October 15, 1984), is a Japanese gravure idol. She was born and lives in Tokyo, Japan
Go check her out boys
